Synthetic Paper Labels

Prints like paper, behaves like film. Synthetic paper takes ink the way coated stock does, then refuses to tear, wick water or go translucent against oil — which is why it ends up on the labels that ordinary paper keeps failing on.

Synthetic Paper, BOPP or PET?

These three get specified interchangeably and they are not interchangeable. The differences that matter are printability, temperature range and what happens when the label is stressed.

If heat is the problem, you want PET. If transparency is the problem, you want clear BOPP. Synthetic paper is for everything in between — durable, opaque, and it still looks like a printed label rather than a sticker.

Food Packaging

Food is where synthetic paper earns its cost. A coated paper label on a chilled or oily pack goes translucent, wrinkles at the edges and tears when the pack is opened. Synthetic paper does none of those things, and unlike clear film it still gives you a white printable surface for ingredient text and regulatory copy.

  • Chilled and frozen — stays intact through condensation cycles and freezer storage
  • Oily and greasy products — no wicking, no translucency, no ink lift
  • Flexible pouches and vacuum packs — stretches with the pack instead of splitting
  • Wet filling lines — applies to damp surfaces without edge lift, given the right adhesive

Food-contact compliant stock is available to FDA, EU 10/2011 and GB 4806, with the material supplier’s declaration of conformity supplied against the order. Tell us which standard your market requires before we quote — it can change the face stock.

Low and high temperature behaviour is tested in-house. See the label laboratory, which runs a freezer to −45 °C and a drying oven to 300 °C.

Compostable and Recyclable Options

Conventional synthetic paper is a plastic film and does not compost. Where a brand needs an end-of-life claim, we source compostable and recyclable label constructions to the certification your market recognises — the face stock, the adhesive and the liner all have to qualify, not just the face.
