What Is a BOPP Label?
BOPP means biaxially oriented polypropylene: a film stretched in two directions during manufacture. It is used as the face material of a self-adhesive label. The complete construction also includes adhesive and a release liner; printed labels may add inks, varnish or lamination. Performance depends on this combination, not the film name alone.
White, Clear or Metallized BOPP?

Match the Adhesive to the Container
Tell us whether the label goes on glass, PET, HDPE, PP or a flexible pack, and whether the surface is curved, textured or squeezable. Permanent bottle labels and resealable wet-wipe closures have different adhesive requirements. Resealable designs need opening and reclosing trials on the actual pack.
Application temperature is the temperature when the label is attached. Service temperature covers storage and use after bonding. Confirm both, together with surface cleanliness, moisture and the time allowed for the bond to develop. A freezer storage requirement alone does not identify a suitable adhesive.
Clear BOPP and White Ink
For transparent labels, selective white ink can support readable text and consistent colour while leaving other areas clear. Mark the white-ink areas in your artwork. Adhesive haze, bubbles, container curvature and application settings can all affect the no-label look, so assess a sample on the intended filled container.

What to Send for a BOPP Label Quote
- Label dimensions in millimetres, shape, quantity and number of designs.
- Container material and shape; whether it is rigid, squeezable or a resealable pack.
- White, clear or metallized appearance, plus white-ink areas and the desired finish.
- Application temperature, storage and use conditions, and any contact with water, oil or chemicals.
- Hand or machine application. For rolls, include core size, maximum roll diameter and unwind direction if known.
- Artwork or an existing specification if available. If you are unsure, describe the product and the result you need.
Approve the Construction Before Production
For a new application, agree on the material and sample plan, apply the trial labels to the actual container and review adhesion, appearance, print durability and applicator performance under the expected conditions. Confirm the approved artwork and roll specification before the production run.
Common Questions
Are BOPP labels waterproof?
The film does not absorb water like paper, but a finished label is not automatically suitable for immersion or freezing. Adhesive, ink, finish and application conditions must also be checked.
Can clear BOPP labels include white printing?
Yes. Specify the areas that need white ink and the areas that should remain transparent. A sample on the intended container helps confirm the result.
Can BOPP be used for wet-wipe closures?
It can be considered as part of a resealable construction. Pack film, contents, opening geometry and the required number of opening cycles need to be reviewed and tested. See wet wipes and household labels.
