Chilled and frozen products can challenge both label application and later use. The first question is when the label is applied: before chilling, on a cold container, or onto an already frozen surface. Each situation needs its own construction review.
Two Temperatures to Confirm

Meeting a freezer storage requirement does not by itself establish that a label can be applied in the freezer. Include the container temperature, room conditions, bonding time and the presence of condensation, frost or oil.
Match the Label to the Pack
A rigid glass jar, a flexible food bag and a carton have different surfaces and handling requirements. BOPP, synthetic paper or a suitable paper construction may be considered, depending on appearance, moisture and the intended printing method.
For labels carrying dates, weights or batch information, specify whether your printer uses direct thermal or thermal transfer. Thermal-transfer printing uses a separate ribbon matched to the face material and required print durability; direct-thermal materials are a different specification.
A Useful Sample Trial
- Apply labels at the intended point in the packing process.
- Include the expected storage duration and cooling or thawing cycles.
- Inspect adhesion, edge lift, surface damage and readability after handling.
- Check barcode scanning and print rub where information is added on your line.
